Power For Health: Achieve Perfect Health with Super Nutritious Food

You may well be wondering just what is Super Food? Put simply, super foods are those that have particularly high nutrient levels, usually two or more in a concentrated form that is uncommon in most food. The nutrient and calorific ratios in these foods is usually quite high.

By incorporating two or more of these super food groups mentioned here, you will be able to live out your days in an exceptional state of health nutritionally. There are other foods that may also belong in this group, but here we will consider the foods that are part of the world's great diets, like the Japanese and the Mediterranean diet. The foods that are common to both those diets are foods that are consumed by some of the world's healthiest people.

The first food to consider is the super group of cold-water seafood, in particular sardines, salmon and tuna. These fish are rich with the fatty acids DHA and EPA Omega 3, and they are important for a healthy brain. Our brains are around 60% fat; neurons, the specialised brain cells, have membranes that are constructed of two layers of fatty acid molecules. The fatty Omegas from the fish are necessary for us to build and preserve the integrity of our neurons, and they keep the brain well oiled and working in just the right order!

The fatty omegas benefits are not limited to our brains either. By boosting our intake of fatty omegas, we can control cholesterol levels in the blood and improve our cardiovascular health, amongst other benefits to numerous to list here.

The next super food group is nuts. Walnuts, peanuts, macadamias and others are great sources of Omega fatty acids also, as well as containing phytonutrients that are essential for healthy cells and their metabolism. All it takes is 5 small handfuls of nuts, particularly walnuts, to improve your cholesterol anywhere from 15% to over 40%. A better result than most drugs, and a natural option too!

For a super food that is high in vitamins and antioxidants, the berry group is the best at controlling free radicals. These are bad chemical compounds that can creep into our systems in day-to-day life, contributing to ageing and numerous other health problems. Berries control this and they are also a great source of water, have little calories and are great for the waistline.

Another entrant in the super food category is whole grains. We have long heard that eating grainy breads and brown breads is good for us, and this precisely why. Whole grains are a fantastic source of B vitamins, and also vitamin E, iron, fibre, magnesium and antioxidants. In fact they can hold more than some fruits and vegetables. Just some of the whole grains available include brown rice, whole wheat, wild rice and even popcorn!

A positive powerhouse for nutrition comes from legumes and beans. It makes sense if you consider that the beans are seeds, which contain the genetic code, chemicals and nutrition to grow a plant. For starters beans are laden with high quality protein and amino acids, whilst containing a low calorie count. If that is not enough, these super foods contain vitamin B, folate, potassium and magnesium. They also hold trace minerals and hundreds of phytonutrients, making them the most exceptional performer of all the super food groups.

A short tip for vegans; the traditional view is that the best amino acid source, along with proteins and Omega acids is from animal proteins. If you don't eat animal products, then a simple solution is the combination of grain and legumes, for example, peas and corn. By eating this you will still be able to source quality proteins, omega fatty acids and antioxidants with out sacrificing your principles. Here's to good health!
